Redefining Self-Representation
The “Digital.ME” exhibition invites MENA digital artists to redefine the self-portrait for the digital age. After receiving over 50 applications, 11 artists from Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Iran were selected, showcasing AI art, creative coding, illustration, and animation.
Self-portraiture is a well-established genre within art history, offering a window into artists’ psyches and cultural contexts. Today, our identities increasingly intertwine with the virtual realm, reflected through social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. These digital canvases challenge traditional notions of identity and showcase our experiences, aspirations, and constructed personas.
Rooted in diverse cultures, many from MENA possess an intrinsic understanding of identity fluidity, navigating between cultural norms of their homeland and adopted customs of their current residences. Explore how digital art articulates and enriches our identities, serving as a powerful medium for self-expression in a borderless age.
